MIR: Sweet lord, you play me false.
FERD: No, my dear'st love,
I would not for the world.
MIR: Yes, for a score of kingdoms you should wrangle,
And I would call it, fair play.
ALONSO: If this prove
A vision of the Island, one dear son
Shall I twice lose.
The Tempest. Act iv. Sc. 1
Has anybody ever watched the movie "Games" with Michael Douglas ???? If yes, you might understand my theory better ......
It kind of came to me the other day, when I realized, that everybody on
this island has some kind of negative past ..... and in order to make
them "better" ....... why not teach them all a lesson ?????????
What about .... if this whole thing is like a "game" .... in
which the people are supposed to learn from their mistakes. The people,
which died, aren't really dead ...... the person who drowned either learned
what he/she was supposed to learn or came to close to the truth .....
same thing with Claire ....... or the "administrators" of the
game tried to take her out for some medical attention ...... she wasn't
really kidnapped, but more guided to the administrators.
If you consider most everybody on the island has someone rich enough to
pay for such a "stunt". Jin+Sun (her father), Jack (his father),
Sawyer (the guy he's trying to hunt down), Claire (the psychic ........
what plane ticket is that expensive travelling in a normal class ????),
etc.
They all could have boarded a plane, getting a narcotic (in the beverages)
and then have been transported to an island, which is a private island
owned by somebody !!!! There the whole crash was staged and the "game"
could begin !!!!!! Let's be honest ....... how many plane crashes really
do have survivors ????????
The monster might be a scare tactic, so that the people wouldn't go to
far into the dschungle ......... because this is were the truth is.
Well, what do you guys think ????????

Your theory sounds suspiciously like one I read the other day in the Theory Index. Specifically Neill's theory, about it being a psychological experiment.
Your theory, although interesting, is not as outofthebox as you may think.
Although the new angle may be something to add to the index. drabauer
will have to answer.
JOSIE4
Wasn't that movie with Michael Douglas and sean Penn called "The Game?"
jeffsoup
I could buy into this except for how would they CONTROL a plane crash??? I mean, I'm not knowedgeable in physics, but the dynamics of a plane - rushing through the air - coming to earth - flipping around - some people getting sucked out - it just seems to 'weird' to be able to control all that, no matter how much money someone has to be able to pay for such a game. Maybe you're onto something with something being in a drink on the plane...maybe none of this really ever happened. But I doubt it.
east928
The airplane never crashed ..... the crash was staged ..... all the people which were meant to take part in the whole thing ....... woke up from the narcotic after the whole "stage" was in place.
Or ...... the people were moved into a room and everything could be a
"virtual reality" thing .......... how about that ???
outofthebox
My son brought up this point on the reruns. He thought the "Monster" made the same noise as the plane as it was decending to crash. I'm not sure of the significants of this but maybe they are hearing the plane crash over & over. Ya know like the message being replyed for what 15 yrs. Just a little foof for thought.
guodrellit
I would almost buy into this.. but back track to the beginning, do you think they'd let Kate stitch up Jack? A plane crash would be hard to stage. They saw a man get sucked into the propellor and die. Also from an interview with E! the man who plays Boone said that he saw the model for the monster.
Lovesx3Requiem
Well, if he saw the model for the "monster" .......
it could be a
"modeled monster", which was put there by the people who are
running the "game" .......
And in regards to "staging an airplane crash" ......... the
producers of the show are staging an airplane crash for this show !!!
It just takes a bunch of money !!!!
Now, when it comes to the man being sucked into the engine ...... that's
a little tricky ....... maybe they were already on narcotic and already
hooked up with a "virtual reality machine thinge" ...... ????
And yes ...... I do believe, that they let people do whatever they need
or want them to do ........ as long as it is not lethal .............
admitted ......... it sometimes gets dangerously close, but nothing really
deadly has happened yet !!!
outofthebox
Are you serious? Nothing deadly has happened yet???? What about Ethan, didn't they just shoot him to death? I'd say thats pretty serious. Also your theory about the plane crashing over and over again has been brought up before.
ODammet
what about the marshall? was that a set up too?
memphis076
I respectfully disagree with your theory. In the movie, the game masters do not have super-science or supernatural powers. In this case, the bad guys can either control the outcome of a planecrash or they can implant false memories.

i was thinking about this one all night last night, htings just seemed to fall into place when u look at that and the episode that they burn off all of the bodies, they seemed to make a BIG fuss over the couple (cant remember if they were newly married or were to be married)
Conundrum
with virtual reality you can explain away anything, but from your original post the marshall is certainly dead they dug up his corpse and it had begun decomposing, that kind of scratches the whole death=redemption angle, not to mention it reeks of the dreaded P word.

I think the Game angle is the best up till now. Maybe they
were enrolled by others, maybe they enrolled themselves. They all seem
to be hiding something. Locke is an RPG fanatic. Hurley is a Dungeons
and Dragons type. They all have different objectives in the game, but
they contradict. For instance, Sawyer has to conquer Claire, but Jack
stands in his way. The gun in the Pilot ep. seemed to surprise them more
than you should expect. This is a game rule that has been broken. Remember,
we haven't seen anything from the moment they check in to a few minutes
before the crash. Maybe that is where they enrolled or had the last contact
with the game administrators. That is why in the beginning Jin is mad
at Sun: she enrolled them both in the game and he does not like it. At
the airport they had just made peace. Something happened in between. Explanation
for the torture scene: Sayid and Sawyer seem to make a big show of not
liking each other; I think they're actually secretly working together.
The torture was fake. It helped Sawyer reach one of his goals.
One of the rules must be that people have to stay in their roles no matter
what. That is why we never see them discussing the game.
It could be however, that this is a game gone wrong, with a real plane
crash, but people are not sure of that so they're staying in character.
The marshall probably really died and maybe he was one of the moderators.
Maybe some of the others are also moderators or highly advanced players
(wizards). Locke, Jack, Claire?
