Lie there, my art. Wipe thou thine eyes; have comfort.
The direful spectacle of the wreck, which touch'd
The very virtue of compassion in thee,
I have with such provision in mine art
So safely ordered that there is no soul--
No, not so much perdition as an hair
Betid to any creature in the vessel
Which thou heard'st cry, which thou saw'st sink. Sit down;
For thou must now know farther

The Crash

Island not responsible for plane crash?

Just thinking about something...

If the plane experienced instrument problems and then crashed 1000 miles off course after trying to turn around... how could it be the islands fault? Would the island "reach out" and influence the plane and draw it 1000 miles off course?

Didn't Danielle say they had instrument trouble on the ship and then ran into the rocks? I would assume that the ship wouldn't travel as far off course when it developed problems.

Re: Island not responsible for plane crash?

Maybe there's a kind of "magnetic force" in the ocean around the island that jams up electronic systems and sort of draws objects to the island. So the ocean around it caused it to crash, but somehow the island protected them so they wouldn't die in the crash? This is actually kind of similar to a lot of theories about the Bermuda triangle, I think, except that this isn't located near Bermuda...

yeah, i've thought about similar things... Its like the island is a living, breathing thing... *shudders* creepy...

Re: Island not responsible for plane crash?

I don't think the island itself caused the crash. I think someone did something to the plane to make it crash.

Someone's knowing more then he/she is letting on...

Re: Island not responsible for plane crash?

A few quick comments, make of them what you will:

Danielle says something to the effect that the instruments on her ship stopped working before it wrecked.

Given the relative speeds of ocean-going vessels and airliners, the airliner was probably a lot further away from the island than ship was when things started going down the tubes for both.

[My favorites] Maybe The Island Powers are benign. Maybe everybody is alive because The Island saved them.

Maybe there are opposing Powers...one that destroys, one that saves....

refugee: good point! I think it's also worth mentioning that Danielle described hearing terrible noises during their shipwreck. As I recall, our survivors also reported strange noises during the plane crash. Not sure what to make of that, but I do think it's important.
