Character Connections:

Six Degrees of Separation

The Island is a Rambaldi Experiment

Just a wild off the wall thought, with the Driveshaft music playing on Alias, I began to think....what if JJ makes a connection between the shows and the island is some sort of Rambaldi experiment.

Lost:Alias Recap

Could there be something to the theory that the two shows are connected, or is JJ Abrams just toying with us.

Recap:

1. Actors that play Locke and the pilot both were/are characters on Alias. I started out thinking it was just a nice producer doing actor friends a favor.

2. Two weeks ago, when Alias premiered there were two almost identical lines in both shows.
Kate, in Lost, says (in reference to her cover up being believable) says, "Don't hold back- it's all in the details."
Sydney, in Alias, when commenting on her successful aliases says "Its all in the details."

3. This week, Locke, in Lost, says to Boone, "Have you considered the ramifications?" Jack Bristow, in Alias, to Sydney, asks her "Have you considered the ramifications?" Jack and Sydney are at a birthday party with a lot of music playing in the background. When Jack asks Sydney about considering ramifications, the song "You are Everybody" is playing in the background. This song is the same song that was played by the fictional band "Driveshaft" in Charlies back story on Lost.

Theory- Kate had heard of Driveshaft and loved the band. She obviously knows a lot about guns, cover ups etc, fighting etc. The birthday party on Alias has a lot of agents present and they obviously listen to Driveshaft, a relatively unknown band. Could Kate be a former SD6/CIA agent?

Other little incidences: Lost- flew from Sydney Australia, Alias- Sydney Bristow; Lost- Sayeeds that he loved was named Nadia, Alias- Sydneys sister is named Nadia.
Lost- In the episode on John Lockes backstory, the scene in his bedroom shows a government/CIA(?) seal on his dresser.

Really wild theory- Could John Locke and former CIA assistant director Kendall on Alias actually be the same fictional character since they are both played by Terry O'Quinn? I can't remember Alias reason why Agent Kendall left. On Lost we know that Locke has only been paralyzed for 4 years. Could he still be the same character involved in a Super Secret organization?

Also my parents and other friends noticed that when the new Alias shows started, that now the Lost episodes go past 8:00 PM, about 4-5 minutes, which I noticed because I record Lost on my TiVo and I missed the last few minutes last week because it stopped recording at 8. Lost goes directly into Alias without commercials, only upcoming scenes of next week's episode.

These are pretty wild theories but I'm definitely going to watch the two shows for more identical lines, etc.

Re: Lost:Alias Recap

whoa that made me think. whatever did happen to Emily...As for Sloan and that whole PEACE thing that he may have found, I don't know but I will never trust Sloan. To me, he will always have some secret agenda up his sleeves that he doesn't want anyone to find out about. The guy is evil and him working for the Black Ops makes me think that he's up to something and the writers of the show will definitely prove that later on. Maybe not this season cuz the show started in January but later on as the series progress.

Re: Lost:Alias Recap

Alias doesn't interest me so I don't watch it and never have. So I don't get what you are saying. Sounds to me like a ratings thing. If JJ can tie in Lost to Alias then so much the better for each program. BTW its You All Everybody not You Are Everybody. I know it sounds like a strange title for a song but I interpret the song as You, All, Everybody. If you think of the title with the commas between the words then this open up speculation as to the lone survivor theory.

Re: Lost:Alias Recap

The shows aren't connected, Abrams is just writing little injokes for his fans. It's like how Trey Parker and Matt Stone constantly reference Cannibal The Musical, Orgasmo, and BASEketball in South Park.

Connecting the two shows, while admirable from a writer's point of view, would be suicide as it would alienate the fans of one show that doesn't watch the others (especially the Lost fans who don't watch Alias, as Lost would simply become an offshoot of Alias).

However, I do think the similar dialogue of Kate and Sydney's and Locke's and whomever may be clues as to the true pasts of the Lost characters. Of course, when the same artist creates multiple works, there are always going to be similarities.

Re: Lost:Alias Recap

BTW Odammit, i thought i would mention that Abrams has clearly stated in some article that "You All Everybody" was just something he decided to use for the title of Driveshaft's hit song because a random fan on the Maury show screamed it nonsensically during one show. It was an inside joke between him and the producers ... and then when they realized they would have to explain the song, they tried to make a good song and surprisingly did ... actually i believe that the interview took place in a TVGuide ... im sure someone else saw it. It was the one where they revealed a bunch of behind-the-scenes secrets, such as the planning of killing jack off within the first hour of the show

What's a rambaldi experiment?

Re: Lost:Alias Recap

But wouldn't it be a shocking plot twist? A hidden spin-off? As long as the two could exist without eachother, it'd be okay... not great, but not terrible.

Re: Lost:Alias Recap

I love the idea, being a big Alias fan, but we're obviously working in two different universes here, you know, like DC and Marvel....
I think that Alias gives an indication that we may never eally know the full truth about the island. The whole Rimabaldi mystery has so many loose ends that I doubt it would ever be tied up completely, either. Not a complaint, merely an observation.

Re: Lost:Alias Recap

WOW WOW WOW.

I never watched Alias, all along I thought it was just a sexy dark angel type of show, but more grounded, CIA agents and thats it.

Now I know otherwise, thanks to that Rambaldi link.

I had no idea Alias's backstory involved putting together puzzle pieces, such as the sphere that sickens people exposed to the liquid inside, and the neutron bomb, and the telling, ITS JUST LIKE LOST !

WOW it's so far out there !

And its a hit show, its real to its viewers.

NOW I UNDERSTAND.

Look at the shows, No, they're not connected, but look at the stuff JJ believe in as science !
Mind power devices !

NOTICE the music box, that plays a tune to decrypt....

we have all talked about how Danielles music box may hold some type of formula in the song La mer...

I HAD NO IDEA ALIAS WAS ABOUT SUCH ODD SCIENCE's

It really helps me see where this is going.

Re: Lost:Alias Recap

Yeah, yung, what I find so fascinating about Alias is that–on the surface–it has that "sexy badass siren" stereotype (well, stereotype at least since Xena and Buffy) and beautiful people and romance and buttloads of action, to draw in casual viewers (although not as many as ABC would like). For the rest of us there is the incredibly byzantine Rambaldi mythology, some great actors (Victor Garber was on Broadway for years, Lena Olin may be returning as Sydney's mom), really clever writing and a tongue in cheek–but never camp–treatment of the spy genre. And really great set design and music!
But there's no doubt in Alias that science plays second fiddle to the personal intrigue on the show. I hope, since LOST moves so much more slowly, that we get a little more substance. Alias never lingers or goes backward, thus we aren't invited to ponder the mythology in much depth. But the word on the street is that came down from ABC because of ratings trouble, which LOST, fortunately, does not have!
