Full fathom five thy father lies;
Of his bones are coral made;
Those are pearls that were his eyes:
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange.
The Tempest. Act i. Sc. 2
Interesting... I don't know about the whole android idea, but it is interesting...
This board is dead quiet...I guess everyone will be back in time for the new episodes.
Wynter Zera
Wow, Wes. That's quite an imagination you have there and it should make quite a few people happy. We have clone/android proponents spread across the board. They will jump on this in no time.
JacksGirlfriend
I hesitate to call Ethan an "android" -- he's what I consider a "humandroid," built of flesh and blood. Humandroids had to be that way for successful infiltration.
But, he is similar in that he has a silicarbon operating cortex and can be controlled remotely -- one of the interesting possibilities latent in my theory is that the memetic storage in every operating cortex can be easily accessed via the control center; and Ethan "witnessed the crash."
Imagine...
Wes Cohn
So you're saying that if they can control Ethan, they can find out what happened during the crash? And perhaps why?
JacksGirlfriend
.....certainly does explain the strength he possesses. I am going to tell you what I told Maxpublic and Pinnerman: call ABC and interview as a writer on the show.
cccourt
That's precisely what I mean, JG.
Part of the theory that I mention only in passing is the concept of "semi-robots." These were originally going to be stumbled upon by Jack, Locke, etc., during the assualt on the control facility -- from afar, of course. Huge, intimidating robotlike weapons platforms. There would be a fear of the mission's futility -- but on closer inspection, the huge forms would be shown to be dormant, offline, and even better: intended for human "pilots."
After the raid on the compound, and successful escape from the giant monster inside, I thought it'd be wonderful to see Jack -- or another -- decide that the best way to traverse the ground separating the compound from Ethan's camp would be by climbing into and piloting one of these ancient semi-robotic "mobile turrets."
CCC, compliments appreciated.
Wes Cohn
How are you going to control Ethan?
JacksGirlfriend
JG:
I imagine they'll discover a kind of overriding "off" switch at his console. The flipping of which will cause him to go limp and passive.
Or maybe that isn't the case.
Maybe it's more difficult.
Maybe they have to rip out part of his control console and take it with them on the trek, to watch for Ethan's movements and migrations.
This could even be the point when Locke decides it's necessary to construct a small hot air balloon (which he'll name "Icarus"), if the semi-robots proves too hoaky.
It would probably be best if, when they arrive where Ethan and Claire are supposed to be, they find neither, and instead come across something that deepends the island's mystery even further.
(For example: Imagine if Jack is piloting one of the mobile turrets across the terrain, getting closer and closer to where Ethan and Claire are supposed to be. As soon as he passes into the clearing, finding nothing, we're jarred: it's like looking out into a mirror. DIRECTLY across from Jack is another of the mobile turrets, facing him, piloted by a similar-looking man. This, however, is no supernatural portal. It's the reluctant "leader" of the TAIL section, whose history up until now has been remarkably identical to that of Jack's. We discover, in this episode, that the total survivors is now 84. 46 and 38. They can share stories, now, and knowledge.)
Wes Cohn
Boy Wes, that is quite the long, eh theory you've got there.
LostinTrinity
Well, some of us thought the tail section might be on the other side of the island. And I guess it's possible if our group survived, the other did as well (Rose sure thinks so).
How do you see this group? A mirror of our own or the antithesis? Is this where the light/dark scenario comes into play?
JacksGirlfriend
Thanks Wes,
Initially, my theory was that the island was a giant database of literary references projected ... (i.e. hologram deck on star trek). Now over time, I'm adapting it a bit. Many similarities to yours. I've come to incorporate the clone/cyborg/droid theory as well.
In the big picture, I think the island and everything on it is man-made. I think underneath the surface of the island is a giant computer, and the plants, animals (ethan) are components of the computer/island and are controlled by it. I think the castaways are cyborgs or as you say droids but in my version they are like homing pigeons - they all got on that plane to return to their homeland - whether they are aware of it or not.
There are too many scientist/military/doctor/baby references for the castaways not to be in some stage of "droid-ness." Either like you said they were fabricated on the island and then put in the real world; or they were perhaps created/cloned later by (Jack's dad or Danielle and her team, or Kate's dad) in a secret research lab. Or they mutate from human to droid from the "sickness." In this case, they may actually die, as their cells change from living to mechanical and not even know it.
This is a little wacko, but I think a couple of the characters know exactly what's going on: mainly Jin and Locke. I think Jin's watch has something to do with how they got there.
Wes thanks for your creativity and time and writing abilities to put all that together. Out of pre-holiday boredom, I was trying to start a "cloner" converstation today, but nobody bit.
sawyerhasbestlines
Very interesting and valid suggestions, Kim.
(In my original draft I had some classic "Sawyer" moments thrown in. As a somewhat amusing aside, for a long time before I knew his character name I referred to him as "Viggo II." )
JG:
I have not elaborated much on the "others," yet. At least formally. I think "the darkness" lies further in, deeper. Danielle's seen it. I'm going to guess that "the rest" are in relatively the same situation as the characters we know; it will require some duration on the island before "darkness" descends.
Wes Cohn
Wes,
Do others = droid, or do others = human?
I sure would like to hear your thoughts on "the others."
Did you notice how many times "the others" were mentioned in the re-runs? It takes on all new meaning now.
Taking into consideration the Danielle/Sayid exchange, and now re-watching the re-runs "the others" takes on new meaning. Jin refers to rest of the survivors as "the others" and it makes him seem more of a protector to his wife, and less of a control freak. Especially, when the food he prepares is for "the others" and not his wife. Jack kept saying "the others" over and over. I keep trying to figure out who are the "droids" and who is not, or who is might be partially droid.
I know a lot of this has been talked to death, but I'm obsessing on it now for some reason.
sawyerhasbestlines
I don't know what "the others" are . . . perhaps droids, perhaps not.
I think, whatever the case, Sawyer should refer to them as "irregulars."
The most chilling line, I've found, is:
"My husband is not dead."
Wes Cohn
"my husband is not dead"
No kidding, I agree - I was just saying the same thing to a friend who is new to Lost. Add Rose to the list of who knows what's really going on.
sawyerhasbestlines
Rose?? Hmmmmmmm?? Ahemmmmmmmm????
Rose knows????? You think??
If she has a fanbase...and she does....she just could.
cccourt
Did the suggestion offend you, CCC? I didn't mean it to.
Wes Cohn
HELLO WES !!!
Great read !!, you actually made me believe they can do this !!
Tie it in now, so all the crash survivors are organic nanobotic machines ? they were resurrected by the island ? the sand even ? it sensed there presence and rebuilt ala TRANSFORMERS ? remember the drone that was sent out to find new body structure info, and it saw cars ?
Locke is explained perfectly this way, even Charlies drug problem was simulated, that explains the lack of a withdrawl, HE WOULD BE PUKING AND SHAKING AND STUFF LIKE THAT !
CLAIRES BABY TOO !!!
WOW, you did it.
Where did you steal that script ?
wait, why did it not kill Locke ?
